DESCRIPTION HJ-513is a high solids fast curing technologically advanced hybrid epoxy phenolic novolac
designed to provide superior solvent, chemical, and elevated temperature resistance.
TYPICAL USE Designed for use as an interior lining for storage tanks, process tanks, and pipelines in the petroleum and
chemical process industries.

CURE SCHEDULE Ventilation: Adequate ventilation is required during application and curing process.
For Immersion Service: 3 days with ventilation at 77° F or higher and 50% relative humidity. ASTM
D3363 Pencil Hardness of 5H is recommended.
Post Cure Applications: After application of final coat, provide forced air ventilation for a minimum of one
hour. Slowly increase steel temperature at a rate of 30°F per hour. When steel temperature reaches 150°F
discontinue heat and maintain ambient air temperature ventilation a minimum of one hour.
SURFACE PREPARATION All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dust, dirt, oil or other foreign matter. Steel surface shall be
abrasive blasted to a minimum SSPC SP-10/Nace No. 2 Near White Metal finish with a minimum 2½ mil
profile for best results. Concrete shall be abrasive brush blasted or etched with 10% muriatic acid. Use of a
primer is required for concrete to improve adhesion and minimize outgassing.
APPLICATION EQUIPMENT Spray is preferred for appearance and film build control.
MIX RATIO 2:1 by volume.
APPLICATION CONDITIONS Apply at 5° F (3° C) above dew point. Use the following chart for preferred temperature and humidity
conditions. These conditions plus adequate ventilation must be maintained throughout the curing cycle.

HANDLING Store at moderate temperatures (65-85º F) prior to application for ease of handling and mixing.
THINNING Thinning is not recommended for maximum performance at elevated temperature immersion service.
Thinning also reduces hanging qualities of the lining and will slow cure.
PRE-HEATING Not required for HJ-340.
MIXING Mechanically pre-mix each component one minute; then mix combined compound with mechanical mixer at
400-600 rpm until homogeneous. Allow a 15 minute induction time. Remix before application.
CLEAN UP Clean immediately with methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK).
PACKAGING One unit forms approximately 4 gallons consisting of two components:

SHELF LIFE 2 years when stored at 75° F (24° C) unopened.
