Water-Borne Premium Quality Acrylic Primer

PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS:

A water-borne, premium quality fast drying, low odour emulsion as an alternative to solvent-borne eggshell. It
has a highly durable satin lustre washable finish. For use on broadwall areas and joinery.
AVAILABILITY

Packaging 1, 2.5 and 5 litre.
PROPTIES
Drying Time Under normal drying conditions touch dry 1-2 hours and recoatable after 4 hours.
Allow for adequate ventilation during the drying period.
Finish Satin.
Composition
Pigment: Titanium Dioxide, coloured pigments and extenders.
Binder: Acrylic polymer.
Solvent: Water.
Spreading Rate 12m² per litre on smooth surfaces
Wet Film Thickness 83 micrometres at 12m² per litre.
Dry Film Thickness 38 micrometres at 12m² per litre.
Volume Solids 46% White other colours will vary.
Flash Point Not applicable.
VOC Content limit value for this product (cat.A/d): 150 g/l (07) / 130 g/l (10). This product
contains max. 18 g/l VOC.
Limitations For interior use only. Do not apply when air or substrate temperatures are likely to fall
below 8ºC or when the relative humidity is above 80% during application or the drying
period
PREPARATION
New Surfaces Walls
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will
interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Powdery, polished plaster or
dense surfaces should be primed with Alkali Resisting Primer. Porous
surfaces should be ‘mist’ coated with Acrylic Primer thinned
with up to 10% clean water.
Timber
All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the
adhesion of the materials to be applied. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive
paper. Remove all dust. Treat knots with two thin coats of fresh knotting. Fill any fixing
holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with Ready Mixed Filler.
Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper. Remove all dust. Prime with one
coat of Water Based Primer Undercoat.
All metals including galvanised
Surfaces must be clean and free from anything that will interfere with the materials to
be applied. Wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease or
any other contaminants, frequently changing the water. Rinse thoroughly with clean
water. Allow to dry. Galvanised surfaces should be pre-treated with Decorators Choice
Passivating Wash. Overall blackening of the surface will confirm satisfactory surface
preparation.
Additional surface preparation – all metals
Non-ferrous metals
Lightly abrade to a bright (not polished) surface – excluding galvanised surfaces.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all resides. Allow to dry. Prime with one
coat of Water Based Metal Primer. Undercoat with one coat of Water Based Primer Undercoat.
Ferrous metals
Remove all millscale and rust back to clean metal. Remove all residues. Prime within
the working day with one coat of Water Based Metal Primer.
Previously Decorated Surfaces Walls
All surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will
interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied e.g. dirt, grease etc. Remove
all loose, failing or suspect paint. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust.
Organic growth must be removed and the areas treated with a Fungicidal
Solution. Fill any fixing holes, cracks and shallow surface defects with
Ready Mixed Filler. Patch prime bare and filled areas with Acrylic Primer
thinned as per the container instructions. If after cleaning any areas are still
contaminated with substances likely to cause staining and/or bleeding, patch prime
with one coat of Alkali Resisting Primer.
Timber
All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the
adhesion of the materials to be applied. Remove all loose, failing or suspect paint.
Remove grey and denatured surfaces by rubbing down with abrasive paper. Feather
edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Organic growth must be removed and the
areas treated with Fungicidal Solution. Treat knots with two thin coats of
fresh knotting. Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with
Ready Mixed Filler. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper.
Remove all dust. Spot prime bare and filled areas with one coat of
Water Based Primer Undercoat.
Metals
All surfaces must be suitably dry, and free from anything that will interfere with the
adhesion of the materials to be applied. Remove all loose, and failing or suspect
paint. Feather edges of sound paint. Remove all dust. Remove all rust. Spot prime
ferrous and non-ferrous metals including galvanised metal with one coat of Water Based Metal Primer.
Walls, timber and metals
Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove
any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Any glossy or eggshell surfaces
must be wet abraded to provide a key. Rinse with clean water to remove all residues.
Allow to dry. Bring forward patch primed and or spot primed areas with
Acrylic Eggshell.
COATING SYSTEM Apply one or two coats as required.
APPLICATION Stir well before use. For walls apply using a good quality fine filament synthetic brush
or medium pile woven roller. For airless spray (dilution may be required). For further
information contact the Customer Relations Team. For joinery apply
using a good quality fine filament synthetic brush.
CLEANING Wash with clean water immediately after use.
MAINTENANCE INFORMATION FOR
CDM FILE
Between maintenance redecoration surfaces may be washed with a warm water and
liquid detergent solution to remove surface dirt.
HEALTH AND SAFETY Please refer to the Safety, Health and Environmental Information on the container.
Take special precautions during the surface preparation of pre 1960’s painted surfaces
as they may contain harmful lead. For further information contact the
Customer Relations Team. When preparing all surfaces avoid the inhalation of dust
and/or metal particles. Wear a suitable facemask. Material Safety Data Sheets for this
and all other Honest joy products are freely available from the place of purchase or
the address below. Store in secure dry conditions inaccessible to children or animals.
Containers should be kept closed during storage. Do not empty into drains,
watercourses or access routes to septic tanks.
GENAL INFORMATION Under normal and frost free conditions this product will remain usable
for up to two years if stored correctly and unopened.
