Zinc-rich Ethyl Silicate Based Coating
HJ-7311 is a 2-pack, self curing (reacting with
atmospheric moisture), solvent based zinc ethyl silicate
As a general purpose, heavy duty rust preventing primer,
suitable for long term protection of steel structures
exposed to severely corrosive and abrasive environment.

Remove oil and grease, etc. with suitable detergent.

Application Procedure HJ-7311
1. Flush all equipment with recommended cleaner to remove
any present moisture that may cause hardening of the product
2. Stir powder (B) into liquid (A) until it is well dispersed and
mixture is free of lumps.
3. Since pot life is limited and shortened by high temperatures,
do not mix more material that will be used within the pot life
4. Keep containers loosely covered until ready to use to
prevent skinning or gelling due to air moisture.
5. Continue slow stirring during application to maintain
uniformity of material. Avoid fast stirring as this may cause a
rise in material temperature shortening pot life.
6. Check thickness of dry coating with a non-destructive
Note: HJ-7311 must be fully cured before recoating with a
full paint system. By recoating with tie coat in 25 micron / 1
mil only. The interval can be reduced to eg 24 hours at º C /
68 F and 65-75% RH provide that the following coats are
applied after HJ-7311 is fully cured.
7. Top coating procedure: Non-weathered zinc silicate coatings
are porous and popping may occur in the subsequent coat (S).
One way to reduce the risk of popping is to apply a mist coat
as the first pass of the subsequent coat, let the air escape, and
then apply the remainder of the top coat.
8.Prevent contact with water until the freshly applied coating is
at least dry to touch.
9. In confined areas ventilate with clean air during application
and drying until all solvents are removed.
10. Clean all equipment with recommended cleaner
immediately after use.
Surface temperature should be at least 3° C above dew paint.
Relative humidity should be 30-90 %. Below 30% the full
curing will not occur. Below 50% relative humidity the
minimum recoat interval time will be taken longer.
This product is highly flammable. Keep away from
heat and open flame. Keep container closed. Avoid
prolonged and repeated contact with skin.
The powder is harmful dust containing zinc. Avoid
breathing dust and wash thoroughly before eating
Contact with water liberates highly flammable
gases, spontaneously flammable in air.
Do not leave mixed material in sealed container
beyond the expected pot life as gassing may cause
container to brust.
If used in confined areas:
- circulate adequate fresh air continuously during
application and drying.
- Use fresh air masks and explosion proof
- Prohibit all flames, sparks, welding and smoking
- Take precautionary measures against static

sunlight. Containers must be kept tightly closed.
